Shoko Maeda’s work examines how people understand their own position in terms of location or dislocation. She is interested in the moments where the absorption of a space dominates the subjects’ perception and emotion. Her work involves the viewers’ imagination, memory, experience, fantasy, or desires by inviting them to project themselves in the position of the anonymous person in the photograph.
