How does a society recognize its origin or even its personal/collective past? These questions are central to Petra Johanna Barfs’ work. The artist started dealing with this topic after returning to Germany having completed her studies in the Netherlands. After her return she started with her “reintegration” in Germany. That‘s how her interest in the notions of “social identity” and “Heimat” came about.
